I want my own checking account!

Since I left the Philippines I still haven’t opened a checking account nor savings account although I wanted to have one. I know some of you will think that it’s not necessary to have a checking account because my husband has it already. But I want to have my own checking account in case of emergency. I don’t want to always rely on my husband. It’s not a bad idea right? I’m not being selfish here I only want to earn my own income and have my very own savings account so that I can buy whatever I want or I can use it in any emergency that can possibly happen.

I wonder if it’s a phase women go thru. My wife and I went thru a similar phase of having separate accounts and we tried to divide home expenses so that each one is left with enough funds to call its own. We did that for years - then I guess, we learned to trust each other - so much that we now just keep one account and put all our pay checks and ’sidelines’ in to it. Makes so much sense and saved a bit on the mortgage interest too.
But my point is that we went through it - so if you feel like you need to have your on money for your needs - you should have it.
