How Filipinos celebrate Halloween?

I will share how we Filipinos celebrate Halloween since I don’t know exactly how Americans celebrate Halloween except their trick or treating. Actually, its just simple as this and as far as I know, Filipinos celebrate Halloween by lighting candles and giving honor to the dead. We are busy preparing for the All Souls Day like going to the cemetery and cleaning the graves. On the day of celebration we go to church to offer a mass for our love ones spirits and pray for their peacefulness and just talking to them that we still remember them. On the other side, we also have trick or treat for kids to have something to enjoy about. We know that kids love to wear costumes and they love candies. So, sometimes I would think that trick or treat is totally for kids so to divert their attention from being scared of monsters and ghosts that they mostly hear during Halloween or All souls day. So, instead of locking their self in their rooms they have something to enjoy about and participate while the elders are busy with their own preparation.

So we celebrate Halloween not only by dressing in costumes and giving out candies but also preparing foods to serve it on our altar and pray for souls. Sometimes we visit our provinces where unlike others they only go out for parties and night-outs.

hehe naalala ko bigla na tomorrow na nga pala yung nov1.. lagi rin kasi kami ng family/relatives ko sa sementeryo.. kumakain lang kami don, kwentuhan, picture-picture, hehe.. saka naghahanap ng kakilala sa sementeryo, friends or dating classmates hehe! sayang dito samin hindi uso ang may costume party, mukang maganda pa naman yun T_T

woohooo, happy halloween! hehee naku syempre sa Pinas hndi kami umuuwi ng probinsya, instead we just light candles sa labas ng bahay, then si mommy mag luluto ng suman tapos boiled egg, minsan pansit tapos mag aatang sila sa isang lugar pati kandila, sa MIL ko naman pupunta kami sa sementeryo sa puntod ng lolo at lola pati kapatid ni Jon na namatay daming tao, nakakamiss talaga sa Pinas kaibhan lang napakatahimik dun, it gives me the chills brr… I can feel spirits everywhere hahaha :grin: love yah, ate scart!

Ate Scart! Sorry ngayon lang uli ako nakavisit!! =) Missed ya soo much!! hehee. May new post pala ako ate, sorry if you kept going to my blog pero ala namang new entry. hehe =) Yap, ganun nga magcelebrate ang mga pinoy, actually commemorate right? hehee. Pero now, my parents go before nov 1 dahil super daming tao talaga sa cemetery kapag nov1 ka pumunta kaya they went out this morning na. Dahil and a Chinoy rin, so we usually bring food and incense pa and burn paper money. Parang interesting rin magtrick or treat dyan sa US!~ Cge tc na ate!! Happy Hallow’s Eve ah! =)

hmm, i forgot that that’s how we celebrate back home. here in LA, it took me 2 hours to get home because of all the traffic. there’s a block party type celebration in west hollywood where people just dress up and party, drink, go out to eat… i’ve never been, but that’s what i hear happens. people get drunk. halloween is less of a spiritual celebration here than it is a chance to party. but people do still celebrate their traditions at home.
