Addicted to Coffee!

November 21st, 2007 Viewed 536 views

You know guys, ever since I got pregnant I noticed that I’ve started to like having coffee. I was really never a fan of coffee although sometimes I would have some here and there but now it’s different. I would have coffee everyday and sometimes even at night. I drink it more than I drink milk. I don’t know, I really like the taste of coffee right now that’s why Luvs and I thought of buying an espresso machine even the cheapest one will do. I want to try fresh brewed coffee because it smells so good. I found a website that sells espresso machines although the products are a little pricey but you can be sure that you are buying a very good machine. It can even be used for commercial purposes. If you own a restaurant or a coffee shop you should browse thecoffeebrewers.com where they offer elegant and durable machines. Everything you’ll be spending will be well worth it. If only we can afford it, we’ll definitely get one for ourselves from the website that I mentioned. Oh well… By the way, I have a question, is coffee okay for pregnant women? Seriously, right now, I think I’m addicted to coffee!

Top 10 Reasons NOT To Drink Coffee

1- Coffee is a stimulator of the central nervous system that provides the adrenal with a shot and adrenal is a stress-handling hormone. Coffee also stimulates the production of cortisol, which results in heightened awareness and alertness.

2- Though coffee is not linked to cancer but it contains carcinogens and other chemicals that trigger cancer cells.

3- Due to the increase of cortisol effect, the blood vessel constricts and the heart pumps faster and thus increases the blood pressure.

4-Caffeine is very harmful for pregnant women as the liver in fetuses cannot metabolize the caffeine and so it remains in the body arousing the brain resulting in sleeplessness and irritability.

5-According to research coffee is been associated with birth defects, miscarriages, and sudden infant death syndrome. Is this what you want for your unborn?.

6-Many of the chemicals present in coffee can irritate the sensitive stomach lining by increasing the stomach acidity thus leading to digestive disorders.

7- Coffee reduces the quality of sleep.

8-Coffee also causes dehydration.

9-Coffee stains your teeth and causes cavities in the teeth.

10-Coffee generally stimulates the frequency of urination and thus you lose various vitamins and minerals. Caffeine reduces the calcium content in the body.

too much coffee may not be good during pregnancy. coffee is the major source of caffeine and it is not good for your baby. maybe you should ask your doctor just to make sure. i don’t like drinking milk either but i no choice because its good for me and the baby. i limit myself drinking sodas. maybe once in the blue moon, i would take a sip of coke. but you should be drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water. but since you are craving for coffee everyday you should ask your doctor. whatever you eat and drink, your baby take it too. goodluck on your pregnancy. :)

“Some studies show an association of high doses of caffeine with an increased rate of miscarriages, premature deliveries or low birth weights. However, complicating factors such as smoking and alcohol use were not accounted for. In high doses, caffeine can affect fetal breathing and heart rate. If you are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, you may want to consider your options such as eliminating caffeine from your diet or limiting intake to no more than 200-300 mg (2-3 cups of coffee) per day. This matter should be discussed further with your clinician.”

From what I’ve read in scientific literatures, they’ve shown that caffeine can affect fetus development, at least in mouse models. No concrete studies have been done on humans though, as far as I know. But I think you don’t need to be alarmed. Just take everything in moderation and you and your baby will just do fine!

Coffee can really be addictive. I was once addicted to it too. Lately I have some coffee cravings but I try not to drink because I don’t really feel well after that. And uh, Rita Mora PHD said it’s bad for pregnant women, so I guess you should either stop or drink less coffee.

you and me both, addicted to coffee! before akala ko wala lang, nakiki sali lang ako sa mom ko for her everyday coffee. yun pala, addicted na ako. pero im not used to home made coffee, i’d always go out to get it… starbucks, or kahit anong coffee shop! i go 3 times a day. and when it hits me, before i sleep i even go out just to get one! even the 7-11 will do lalu na pag nagk-crave ako in the middle of the night! as far as drinking it by preggers, i am not sure as to how bad it is. pero siguro, just to be sure, lessen mo nalang.

I like flavoured coffee - never just black. But I can only drink decaf and with soy milk. Be careful how much you consume, Scarty. Also, coffee is a diuretic, so I’m not sure if it would benefit you particularly when you’re pregnant
